Join the September Conversation is Wednesday, September 16: "Uncomfortable Conversations about Race and Racism". This is an event sponsored by the Interfaith Leaders Coalitions and English Lutheran and will be streamed live via YouTube.

Our country is in a period of reckoning about racial injustice like we have never seen before.  Protests against police violence, systemic racism, and oppressive symbolism have dominated the media. Many Americans are in an awakening about the impact of racism in their community and are looking for ways to engage friends and neighbors in these often considered taboo issues.  For many, having conversations about race and racism is difficult, uncomfortable and maybe intimidating.  Join us for a Community Conversation to address this discomfort.  Pastor Mark Solyst and Diana DiazGranados will sit down together to discuss uncomfortable issues about race and racism, they will talk about how to lean into these important topics with the goal of showing how uncomfortable conversations can promote growth and understanding.

Diana DiazGranados works as the Project Evaluator and Mental Health First Aid trainer for Better Together, a youth mental health project in La Crosse County. She earned a B.S. in Human Ecology from the University of Texas at Austin and earned her Masters' degrees in Social Work and Public Health from Columbia University in New York. Diana started her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho, Southern Africa where she met her husband. Both worked in Eastern Europe, Central America, and Bangladesh before moving to La Crosse with their two kids in 2009. Diana is passionate about social justice issues, promoting empathy, anti-racism and cross-cultural understanding. She is a Co-Leader of the La Crosse Interfaith Shoulder to Shoulder Network (LISSN), a group dedicated to dismantling islamophobia in our community. She is also on the Co-Leader team for the Creating a Healthier Multicultural Community project and a facilitator of the Waking Up White Regional Read.
